Application form
The doctoral studies admission procedure can be commenced if the applicants submit the doctoral study application to the faculty not later than the date stated by the Dean. The application must be submitted in electronical form, without a guaranteed electronic signature, by using the Academic Information System (AIS) which enables the applicants to verify their registration in AIS from the date of submission of the application throughout the admission procedure. Submission of the application is not possible unless all the details required are provided.
Documents required
The applicants shall attach the following annexes to their applications by the deadline stated:
- curriculum vitae,
- transcript of courses and grades earned during the entire previous university study confirmed by the faculty or university by which the statement was issued,
- notarized copy of the diploma of university degree, a photocopy of the state exam certificate in master degree studies,
- brief concept of dissertation topic solution (cover letter),
- list and copies of publications, copies of certificates of ranking at student scientific conferences or other professional events and competitions;
- document confirming a participation in project or grant solution (e.g. copy of a project contract, publication supported by a project, confirmation of internship in a company beyond the practice required during the study, etc.);
- confirmation (copy) of payment of the fee for material provision of the admission In case of submission of an electronic application and payment by transfer using the correct variable symbol according to the instructions for filling in the electronic application, it is not necessary to attach a confirmation of payment of the fee;
- a candidate with specific needs attaches a request to modify the form and manner of the entrance exam;
- a candidate whose previous education was provided by a recognized tertiary educational institution located outside the Slovak Republic shall submit the decision on recognition of the education certificate for the purpose of continuing the studies issued by a recognized university in the Slovak Republic.
The candidate who does not fulfil the basic admission conditions (i.e. does not submit decision on recognition of the education certificate for the purpose of continuing the studies) at the time of their verification may be admitted conditionally, subject to the requirement to prove the fulfilment of the basic admission conditions by the day on the enrolment date at the latest. The date of the meeting of the admission board shall be considered as the date of verification of fulfilment of the conditions.
Dissertation topics
The applicant fills a topic of doctoral thesis he/she is interested in and a name of supervisor in the Application Form. The topics of dissertation theses will be published at least two months before the deadline for submitting applications.

Admission fee
The faculty requires the prospective students to pay a fee for the material provision of the admission procedure. The amount of fee is determined by the internal organizational and management standards issued by the Rector for the respective academic year.
In the academic year 2024/2025 the admission fees are as follows:
- €20 for studies in Slovak language,
- €40 for studies in English language.
The fee for the material provision of the admission procedure is paid in advance, and the payment shall be demonstrated by attaching proof of payment to the application form.
The applicant who fails to pay the fee for the material provision of the admission procedure within the application deadline will not be invited to the entrance exam and will be notified of the decision not to be accepted to the studies due to the failure of fulfilment of the further admission condition.

Tuition fee
There is no tuition fee for doctoral degree study programmes performed in a foreign language in the full-time form.
The annual tuition for doctoral degree study programmes performed in a foreign language is:
- 1200 € for the study in the external form in academic year 2024/2025.
Tuition Fee and Study-Related Fees
Entrance examination
The main objective of the entrance exam for the doctoral study programme is to verify the applicant's aptitude, prerequisites and motivation for independent creative activity in science and technology and the level of his / her expertise in the field of the dissertation thesis. The entrance exam includes the verification of the applicant´s language skills in English.
A maximum of 50 points can be earned for the entrance exam.
Evaluation of the admission procedure results
The evaluation of the admission procedure and the recommendation of applicants for admission to study in the relevant doctoral study programme shall be prepared by the admission board appointed by the Dean of the FEI STU.
The ranking of candidates will be based on the total number of points earned by the individual candidates, calculated as the sum of the points scored for:
- entrance examination (maximum of 50 points)
- results of previous higher education (maximum of 30 points) - based on the weighted average of study (WAS) given in the transcript of completed courses or calculated on the basis of the submitted documents, where the points for the WAS (PWAS) are calculated as follows:
- if WAS <3.0, then PWAS = 45-15*WAS,
- if WAS ≥ 3.0, then PWAS = 0.
- further activities beyond previous university studies (maximum of 20 points)- a candidate may earn 5 points for each of the following activities:
- participation in a project solution,
- participation in student scientific conference,
- participation in a student professional event,
- accepted publication in conference proceedings or in a journal.
The minimum total number of points required for admission to doctoral studies is 50, out of which 30 points at minimum must to be earned for the entrance exam.
In case there are more applicants for individual study programmes meeting the admission criteria than FEI STU plans to admit, the applicants who have demonstrated the highest level of ability to study will be admitted.
Scholarship
During the standard length of the study program, a doctoral student in the full-time form of study is entitled to a scholarship, if he has not already obtained a third-level university education:
- till passing his/her dissertation examination at least in the amount of salary class 6 and salary grade 1 under a particular regulation*
- after passing his/her dissertation examination, at least in the amount of salary class 7 and salary grade 1 under a particular regulation*.

Financial support for students
Students/applicants with special needs
If a part of the verification of abilities for study consists of the admission exam, an applicant with special needs shall be, at his/her request and based on the evaluation of his/her special needs, determined a form of the admission exam and method of taking it, taking regard of his/her special needs. The applicant with special needs shall deliver the request to modify the form and method of taking the admission exam, together with the written application for study.
